Extension for Auto Retail
A custom browser extension built to streamline auto parts lookup and display critical product details directly within employees’ browsing workflow.
Client:
Sakura, Russia
Project Overview
The client engaged Axis to create a browser extension tailored for retail employees working with auto parts catalogs. The tool automatically retrieves and displays product information — including the part name and relevant notes/descriptions — directly on the web page being viewed. This reduced the need for manual searches, minimized errors, and improved employee efficiency across multiple browsers and screen setups.
Challenge
Ensure seamless UI integration without obstructing existing page content or browser elements (hover effects, images, navigation).
Guarantee responsive performance across various monitor sizes and resolutions used in retail operations.
Provide flexibility for employees to reposition or hide the extension UI as needed.
Adapt functionality to both Chrome and Opera browsers despite API nuances.
Tech Stack
Core Development: JavaScript, HTML, CSS for logic, structure, and styling.
Browser APIs: Chrome Extension API (Chromium-based compatibility ensured Opera support).
UI Design & Responsiveness: Flexible layout logic for repositioning, adaptive sizing, and non-intrusive overlays.
Solution
Axis delivered a lightweight and robust browser extension with:
Dynamic Information Display: Auto-fetches and shows product name and notes within the browsing interface.
UI Flexibility: Movable display window (left/right positioning), adaptable to user preferences.
Responsive Design: Optimized for small monitors and multi-screen setups; avoids blocking hover effects or critical UI elements.
Cross-Browser Deployment: Initially released for Chrome, later adapted for Opera.
User Control: Options to hide images or reposition elements for a cleaner experience.
